Formula Student

Construction of a single-seater racing car by students at FH Joanneum Graz. Formula Student is an unofficial but renowned world championship for promising engineers of the future within the scientific community. Around 4,000 students from all over the world compete in England, Germany, Italy, Japan, North America, South America, and Australia.

Every team builds the prototype of a single-seater racing car and develops a concept how four such vehicles can be manufactured per day. Formula Student is therefore the European version of the American SAE™, which has been taking place in the USA since 1976.

From 2000 onwards, such a competition took place in Europe for the first time, in England. Italy followed in 2005 and then the first competition of this type took place in Germany in 2006.

Since 2009 we have provided support to the “Joanneum Racing Team” for automotive engineering students at the University of Graz by supplying titanium for wheel hubs. The team performed extremely well on its very first appearance at Formula Student.

They managed to beat eight other international teams in England in the presentation competition.
